Joining Outspoken Training

Being a National Standard Instructor delivering cycle training to children and adults is a great way to help inspire others to be more active, have fun and make cycling part of their everyday life.

Our team of qualified instructors enjoy seeing trainees grow in confidence through realistic and progressive training sessions, resulting in great job satisfaction and happiness knowing they have made lasting impact on trainees' lives. It is no surprise that people from all walks of life find an attraction to becoming a cycle instructor.

Ian Callaghan is one of our most recent recruits in Lincolnshire and shares his journey to becoming a qualified instructor with Outspoken Training.

When my son came home from his first day of Bikeability training he had a letter saying new instructors were needed in the area. I saw this as a great opportunity to expand and pass on my knowledge to others.

I contacted Outspoken Training to enquire about the National Standard Instructor course and after a couple of emails to Tara, all my questions had been answered and I had filled out an application, had a phone interview and a formal interview with Stuart and booked on a course all within 2 weeks.

The NSI course was brilliant, everyone was from a different background but we all had something in common, a love of cycling and bags of enthusiasm. Stuart and Nick paced the course to stretch our abilities and gave us the tools to instruct others.

Having achieved all the course outcomes I had a week to study my books and prepare for the first day of teaching, I had a few reservations and nerves but most of all I was excited, knowing I was well prepared.

My first week was amazing working with great instructors, they made me feel at ease and mentored me in delivering the course. The children were great and by the end of the week my confidence was at a high, and I felt proud of seeing each child develop their skills.

Overall every aspect of this journey so far has been great. Everyone I have had contact with has been friendly and full of advice. The training met all my needs and the job is extremely rewarding.

I am on a high and ready to keep developing my skills and knowledge to enthuse the next generation of cyclists.”

Well done Ian!
